Metro Maalai

Country:
Malaysia
Director:
Haran Kaveri, Shobaan Pillay
Running Time: 1h 40min
In this story of an unlikely romance between a talented gig musician struggling with an existential crisis (Satish Kumar) and Nithya (Punitah Shanmugam), a newlywed who spends her lonely days in the dull comfort of a Kuala Lumpur high-rise, the capital city itself figures as a metaphor for the evolving boundaries of their relationship. As the couple meanders through the urban landscape drinking beer and trading lines of the classical Tamil poetry of Thiruvempavai, the Petronas towers loom, portentous, signalling the insignificance of a bond that nevertheless threatens to devastate them both.
